How to Read a Vedic Kundali (Birth Chart)
Learn the building blocks of a Vedic birth chart — ascendant, Moon, houses, planets, and timing — so free kundali results make sense.
What a Vedic kundali actually is
A Vedic kundali (janma kundali) is a map of the sky at your exact birth time from your birth place, calculated with the sidereal zodiac. Unlike a sun-sign horoscope, it places every planet into a sign and house relative to your Lagna (ascendant) — the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon when you were born.

Start with four anchors

Houses: life areas, not “lucky numbers”
The twelve houses describe life domains: self and body (1), wealth and speech (2), siblings and courage (3), home and mother (4), creativity and children (5), health routines and service (6), partnerships and marriage (7), shared resources and transformation (8), dharma and higher learning (9), career and status (10), gains and networks (11), losses, expenses, and liberation (12).
A planet’s house shows where its energy tends to express. A planet’s sign shows how it behaves. Aspects and conjunctions show who it talks to. Reading is always a combination — never a single placement in isolation.
Nakshatras and fine grain
Each sign spans 30°, but Vedic astrology also divides the sky into 27 nakshatras. Your Moon nakshatra is especially important for temperament, naming traditions, and matching. Planetary nakshatras add texture to dasha results.
When a free kundali feels “generic,” dig into nakshatra and house lords. Two people with the same Moon sign can have very different emotional styles if the Moon sits in different nakshatras or houses.
